Cooking and brewing seem to go hand in hand. There's something about preparing food and drink from scratch that makes them all the more delicious. As long as I can remember, my husband's mom made bread the old fashioned way, mixing and kneading by hand, creating simple, beautiful loaves . Now, using a good dependable bread machine, and his favorite "secret" ingredient (can you guess?), he experiments with recipes and ingredients much like he does when brewing. There's nothing like that first bite - melted butter on a warm, freshly baked slice of beer bread - what could be better?
½ cup dark beer (preferably home-brewed)
½ cup water
3 cups all -purpose flour
¼ tsp onion powder
¼ tsp garlic powder
2 tsp raw sugar
1 tsp kosher sea salt
1 pk (¼ oz) yeast
Combine beer and water, microwave for 35 seconds
Pour liquid combo into bread machine followed by flour and remaining dry ingredients, adding yeast last.
Set bread machine for "white bread"
Bakes for approximately 3 hrs
The beauty of the bread machine, it tells you when its done!
